We received over 300 nominations this year from across the Defence community, including the Armed Forces, Civil Service, GCHQ, MI5, SIS, defence industry and the defence 3rd sector. Our judges had an incredibly difficult task choosing those to be shortlisted, and an even harder task selecting just three finalists per category.

These individuals and teams showcase the extraordinary talent and achievements of the women, men and teams who work in defence of the nation.

A message from Angela Owen, Founder Women in Defence UK

"We’ve just announced our thirty amazing finalists for this year’s Women in Defence UK Awards. They are superb ambassadors for the work women do in defence of the nation 100 years after women’s suffrage.

"An inspiring and worthy line-up, they range in rank from Lance Corporal to Captain Royal Navy and comprise women and teams from all three of the Armed Forces, the MOD Civil Service, GCHQ and MI5, defence industry and the Houses of Parliament Security.

"Our winners will be announced live at the Awards Dinner on Tuesday 6th November. Many congratulations to the finalists and good luck for the Dinner!”

What happens next?

Every shortlisted nominee has been emailed to let them know the results, if you have been named as a Finalist you will be invited to the Awards Event taking place on 6th November.

Thank you to our wonderful judges, meet them here.

2018 Awards Dinner

In this year of the centenary of suffrage, we are delighted to announce that the Secretary of State for Defence, The Rt Hon Gavin Williamson, will be the senior guest at the Awards Dinner. You may have also noticed that the 2018 Awards branding incorporates the iconic green, white and purple colours of the Women’s Social and Political Union – we hope you like it! The Awards dinner will be taking place on 6th November.

Shortlisters

Our 60 Shortlisters were invited to celebrate their achievements at an event at the Ministry of Defence on 26th September. The Rt Hon Tobias Ellwood, Under Secretary of State and Minister for Defence People and Veterans attended the event and presented the awards to those present.
