There is power in diversity. At Airbus, it is our aim to create an inclusive workforce fostering a culture that embraces and celebrates people from a range of different backgrounds, driven to create new ideas and bring different perspectives to our global challenges.

As the UK’s leading national space company, Airbus has built and operated the Skynet system since 2003, providing an unprecedented level of reliable services, sustaining the UK’s position as a world leader in telecommunications satellites.  This provides world-beating technology which is driven forward through the creation of a diverse and inclusive workforce, built on developing revolutionary ideas. Transforming many years of technological advancements into practical solutions across global domains and strengthening innovation.

Our diverse workforce, which unites people from 140 nations, brings to Airbus an enhanced vision and better decisions, creating the future of advanced aerospace technology.   For example, Zephyr, the world’s leading solar-electric High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) is the first stratospheric Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) of its kind.   Manufactured by Airbus in the UK, this HAPS technology is able to accelerate digital inclusion and revolutionise how we map our planet.

I’ve worked in the defence industry in military and commercial roles throughout my career.  I have seen a welcome change in diversity in recent years, but we still, have not got the balance right and have a lot of work to do.

Some of my closest advisers in Leidos are inspiring women, they bring an invaluable critical eye and strategic perspective to the way we do business and the way we interact with communities.  Our women’s network group is also really essential in driving inclusion throughout our organisation and ensuring that diversity is at the heart of our business.  The defence world needs more women like this!

Leidos protects and empowers communities through technology and people.  It plays an invaluable role in the technological infrastructure of the UK.  As a sector, I believe that we will be better and stronger once we can look at our industry and see a fair and equitable gender and diversity balance.   An important part of that is the work of this industry body and we are delighted to be celebrating with you, a few of the many achievements of the amazing women that work in defence.
