Army: getting the best through innovation, diversity of thought and teamwork

Lt Gen Sir Ralph Wooddisse, Commander Field Army & Gender Champion, shares his message of support from the British Army.

The British Army is proud to sponsor the ‘Emerging Talent’ award, recognising exceptional women at the start of their journeys across the broad span of Defence. As instability and uncertainty continues in many corners of the world, the combined efforts of the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Army, UK Strategic Command, Civil Service and our Industry partners remain pivotal to our security. We live in a time where technical innovation is progressing at speed, where support to our neighbours and allies is critical and where we must become more resilient, more lethal and more agile. We could not do this without the young people who sit at the heart of our organisation.

The British Army is reliant upon the professionalism, commitment and raw talent of people such as the women nominated for this award. It is fundamental to delivering operational effectiveness. It is incumbent on leaders at all levels to recognise and develop talent, to ensure that we get the best from our colleagues through innovation, diversity of thought and teamwork. It is a delight to see so many inspiring women nominated for this award and I offer my greatest congratulations to all those shortlisted. Good luck!
