Meet the judges: Alison Stevenson

Alison Stevenson OBE

Alison Stevenson was appointed Director General Delivery and Strategy in the Ministry of Defence (MOD) in September 2023. This role ensures the Department is strategy-led, delivery focused, and that its strategic communications are effective.

Prior to this, from 2018, Alison was responsible for the MOD’s network of Overseas Bases, Hubs and Support facilities, ensuring that they were able to protect sovereignty and enhance the UK’s global reach. She was also the Gender Champion for UK Strategic Command.

Starting as a graduate engineering trainee, Alison worked in research establishments before undertaking a range of project and programme management, policy, and corporate roles within the Department.

As Head of NATO and Europe Policy between 2009 and 2015, she had a remit to develop, promote and implement UK defence policy objectives for international security organisations. During that time, she made use of a range of working patterns including part time and job share (the first Senior Civil Service job share in the MOD). From 2015 she held the post of Director Head Office, responsible for making it stronger and more strategic, and for its corporate governance.

Alison is married to Colin and has three grown up children.
