Meet the judges: Nick Pett 

Nick Pett, Deputy Director, Armed Forces People Policy, Projects at UK Ministry of Defence


Nick joined the Ministry of Defence in 1999 on the Civil Service Fast Stream. In his early career he worked on Defence housing, Chem-Bio Weapons protection and operations in the Balkans. Since then he has worked on Defence strategy and activity in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, on media and communications in MOD Press Office, on managing MOD’s legal disclosure and Defence inquests, and on policy and communications for the deployment of Carrier Strike Group 21. Nick was promoted to the Senior Civil Service in 2014 and is currently a Deputy Director in the Defence People Team working on disability policy and Veterans’ recognition.

Nick is the Deputy Civilian Champion for the MOD's LGBT+ network. Nick is married to Rachel and together they are raising three children: two sons (15 and 11) and a daughter (7). Outside work, Nick is a beaver and cub scouts leader, a part-time runner, and a keen correspondent and reader.
