Women in Defence UK was proud to take part in the historic Lady Mayor’s Show on Saturday 8 November 2025, joining thousands of participants in one of the world’s oldest and most celebrated civic processions.
Dating back more than 800 years, the Lord Mayor’s Show brings together military organisations, livery companies, charities, businesses and community groups in a unique celebration of tradition, service and modern Britain.
The 2025 Show was particularly significant, led by Dame Susan Langley DBE, the 697th Lord Mayor of London and the first to adopt the title of Lady Mayor of London.
For Women in Defence UK, the day was an opportunity to celebrate the women who serve and support the UK’s defence sector. Women from the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, Civil Service and defence industry walked side by side through the streets of London, representing the breadth of talent and experience across the defence community.
With thousands of participants and spectators lining the route, the procession provided a powerful platform to recognise the contribution women make to UK defence and security, with the celebrations reaching an even wider audience through the BBC’s live coverage.
A particular highlight was hearing Women in Defence UK recognised during the BBC commentary, with our motto, “Deeds not Words”, shared with viewers and the organisation described as “an amazing organisation.”
The response along the route was equally memorable. Participants were met with enthusiastic applause, cheers and messages of thanks from spectators, creating a real sense of pride among those representing Women in Defence UK.
Summer Ryan from QinetiQ reflected:
“It was an unforgettable experience, especially standing beside so many inspiring women from across defence! Feeling so proud to have been part of it.”
Victoria Gurtler from Helsing highlighted the international bonds shared across the defence community:
“As a US veteran working in European defence, the opportunity to join the ranks with these women served as a poignant reminder of the common ground we share as Allies and of the shared experience we have as women who served in uniform.”
The day was a visible demonstration of the strength and diversity of women working throughout defence, and a reminder of the importance of continuing to create opportunities for women to thrive across the military, Civil Service and industry.
Most importantly, the Lady Mayor’s Show gave us the opportunity to come together and celebrate the women who defend us every day.
Deeds not Words.
