The nominations window has now closed.

The nominations window has now closed for the 2020 Awards.  Huge thanks to all those who nominated and the best of luck to all of the nominees.

Note to nominators – if you haven’t received a confirmatory email from us by COP Tuesday 16th June, please email us on Womenindefenceuk@outlook.com.

What happens next?  The citations will now go for judging. We will announce the Shortlist on Monday 7th September.

Award Categories

Inspirational Award

Partner - Lockheed Martin

This award is to recognise where an individual has demonstrated having inspired or positively influenced the choices of other colleagues. 

This category is open to individual women only. 

Outstanding Contribution Award

Partner - BAE Systems

This award is to recognise an outstanding contribution to their organisation where the nominee has exceeded expectations.

This category is open to individual women only. 

Most Collaborative Award

Partner - KBR 

This award is to recognise where an individual has demonstrated that creating a collaborative working arrangement within their organisation or with another organisation has created a positive impact.

This category is open to individual women only. 

Special Award

Partner - The Royal Navy

This award is to recognise achievements that do not fit directly under one of the other categories and includes a key element of overcoming adversity.

This category is open to individual women only. 

Equality of Opportunity Award

This award is to recognise where an individual, team or organisation has worked to create an environment where there is equality of opportunity for any gender.  

This category is open to individuals of any gender, teams and organisations. 

Emerging Talent Award

Partner - The Army

This award is to recognise early career professionals (including apprentices and graduates) demonstrating high performance, who are within their first five years of work following the end of formal training or schemes.

This category is open to individual women who are within their first 5 years of work. 

Unsung Heroines Award

This award is to celebrate those women who, on an enduring basis, have improved the ‘lot' of people in defence, essential to an organisation's output but never seeking recognition for what they do.

This category is open to individual women only. 

Innovation Award

Partner - QinetiQ

This award is to celebrate those women who have achieved excellence in innovation that has multiplied the effect of the UK defence mission.

This category is open to individual women only. 

STEM in Defence Award

Partner - Northrop Grumman

This award is to recognise an individual or team for promoting and supporting activities for young women studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects.

This category is open to teams and individuals of any gender. 

Inclusive Teamwork Award

Partner - the Royal Air Force

This award is to recognise where a team has demonstrated inclusive working, and where all team members have had a voice and been able to contribute, leading to a successful outcome with a tangible positive impact for the organisation.

This category is open to teams only. 

Free Prize Draw

This year, Women in Defence UK will be holding a draw for nominators to win one ticket to attend the Shortlisting Conference on 8 October. A nominator is a person who has nominated an individual, team or organisation in one of the ten categories of the Women in Defence UK Awards 2020.
